Roger Holzheimer: Reviews

The first song I get the feeling that Roger Holzheimer have listened to both Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. But the more the disc is spinning in your car stereo, I can see similarities with Soul Asylum, Live, REM and Crash Test Dummies. The disc ensures a very high quality force at both singing and music. The favorite is "Younger" which opens the entire album, a stripped-down song with vocals and guitar. Stripped and simple yet more powerful than when it is over-produced. The lyric itself seems to be perceived and therefore accurate and credible in every way. Know that he is already working on next album and looking forward to a sequel!

Roger Holzheimer Rough Hewn Heart

Not at all bad, acoustic pop, singer/songwriter music, that could perhaps be described as a stripped-down and introverted Bruce Springsteen. Simple songs, simple arrangements, hard to pull off, but at times Roger Holzheimer manages with excellence. "Right Woman, Wrong Time", short and straightforward, not making anything unnecessarily complicated. Beautiful...

Stellenweise schon.

About Roger Holzheimer does not stand a lot written.
For some years he writes songs and plays music. Anyhow must like probably on fertile ground be, because in 2008 the American took up his first CD.
" Rough of Hewn Heart " calls them and if is in the title of the 'rough' speech, refers to the voice of the protagonist.
With further information it is stingy, as with the playing time.
If the listener means, he would have to do it with a singing Akustikklampfer because it is thus the case in the first song, he will find out that one asks himself at the latest with the third song whether the Holzheimer controls many instruments, or really musician had on his side.
One is certain, in any case: Holzheimer has put on the market his debut as an own-label record and with him what comes to ears of one there he might already have got back one or other spent production cent again.
" Rough of Hewn Heart " is a typical Singer/Songwriter

Every track has his own Textphilosphie and it is about the love with everything for her facets. The musical imbedding has succeeded and the protagonist can score with his not everyday voice.
Chevy " counts " to the specific features of the album in '57.
This number rocks and here the organ which also begins to Solo is not for the foundation responsibly. One, in the wooden home-ambience, standing out composition.
Away from the keys of the keyboard, there to the piano one says, because "Life Again" is the ballad of the record. Even if is already finished below three minutes, with the playful melancholy one finds a lot of fallen in the piece and thus it is also with other compositions.
Wake recollections of an early Cat Stevens up there? Here and there already.
If it comes to "Right Woman, Wrong Time", the piano moves once more in his spell. Indeed, now in a more quick sphere. Already by the first hearing the number has struck me and sometime it has click according to done. The posters on the black and white keys of the piano lie near a Bruce Hornsby.
With the arrangements of the songs Holzheimer has proved a very good little hand.
On the one hand he accompanies himself only on the acoustic guitar. On the other hand the man fortifies his songs with percussion or other instruments. As already written, is not clear whether he falls back on guest's musician or really plays all instruments himself.
In any case, Roger Holzheimer a right decision has dripped with the publication of this record.
" Rough of Hewn Heart " is a fine Singer/Songwriter album. Unfortunately, too briefly. One can fancy a successor. Then, however, please with longer playing time and more information.
The CD comes along in a nicely opened Digipak.
In the news on his homepage one finds out that Roger Holzheimer may take pleasure just in Europe of a broader popularity. Especially in the Netherlands is
if one has already come on the taste...

Strumming by an undergoing sun in the beautiful high mountains of Colorado.

The album reflected perfectly the ideal mix on a lot of songs on Rogers debut release. With his many years' experiences, he peppers the album with personal emotions. For years on end Roger reveals self already till a perfect singer-songwriter. With this album, he harvest immediately a lot of radio airplay in the States and via an extensive promotion campaign via it just, leaps also the large radio stations from Paris over Warschau till Berlin in the musical chair dance. Tekstueel its a lot of numbers as it were novels. They appear to be picked raw from Rogers heart and soul. Critics compare him only already too gladly with Bruce Springsteen, Cat Stevens or the regretted Johnny Cash. Witness the strong more open 'I Saw You', followed accompanied through it on keyboards '57 Chevy', fully in spite of and praise sings Roger over this beautifully winged Chevrolet. With tight drumwerk on 'Ghost Or Kerouac', he honors writer Jack for its brilliant appendix in the schrijfjargon. The mysterious 'Driving Homes with Measured is a story Lampiasi' on self. While Rogers told literally the song, he is supported lovely by a background chorus. According to insiders, Roger Holzheimer pens in abundance at a second release. We can wait now already no longer!

The singer-songwriter and guitarist, Roger Holzheimer's new album, "Heart of the Rouge Hewn also affirmed the 30-over age group is about. Indeed, the repertoire of figures (or more ballads) have an understanding of the need for a deeper experience of life.

11 songs from the disc space - all the Holzheimer's own compositions. The songs all written by personal experiences and the experience called life. His works are present in both múltidézés (eg, the Younger, the '57 Chevy and the Ghost Of Kerouac), as the ageless message wording.

The album is clearly the lyric "dominated", which is embodied in the form of a spectacular shots as I Saw You, Your Window to the Right Woman "Wrong Time" and "Everything You Were.

The composer was the fundamental truth in mind significantly, that the longer a szófolyam, the less the importance of certain words. The words will also be reducing their weight ...

Holzheimer flowing, floating, történetmesélő guitar perfectly highlights the less words the essence of the messages said.

Far not matter whether the space around us as we stay in: music called electronic noise, or to the people and the environment, harmonizing - hangszerekből from the real - voices.

The Rouge Hewn Heart album intimate tone of light and warmth filled the ether and give hope for tomorrow.

Roger Holzheimer: Rough Hewn Heart

A lemezen 11 dal kapott helyet – valamennyi Holzheimer saját szerzeménye.

Az albumot egyértelműen a líra „uralja”, amely olyan lenyűgöző felvételek formájában ölt testet, mint az I Saw You, a Your Window, a Right Woman Wrong Time és az Everything You Were.

A szavak számának csökkentésével azok súlya is megnő…

ROGER HOLZHEIMER “Rough Hewn Heart” (Roger Holzheimer)

Rough hewn Heart "is a nice collection of acoustic (folk) rock songs from a complete stranger until recently our singer-songwriter from Colorado. Roger Holzheimer, so called because the man, seizes on that album back to bygone times. Partly because of his distinctive voice what you already inclined to link to Cat Stevens to explain. But other names, such as Bruce Springsteen, John Hiatt, Ronny Elliott and Johnny Cash to name but a few, and there are quite in place. Holzheimer choose to "Rough hewn Heart" with some regularity for a very simple accompaniment. Both the inner and humanity in its totality as the subject using songs sound like they so often somewhere in the late sixties and early seventies were canned. Our favorites: the good wegrockende "'57 Chevy", from the same keg tapping "Ghost Of Kerouac" and the wonderfully intimate, autumnal packed earlier "Life Again

ROGER HOLZHEIMER “Rough Hewn Heart” (Roger Holzheimer)

(3***)

A man with its jet ear and a cord personal tales which are incorporated in songs. That a correct definition is able be for in Denver, Colorado living singer-songwriter Roger Holzheimer. In spite of its no longer this way young age this nevertheless a new name is in music business because the cd Rough Hewn Heart which we today discuss for you is indeed its debut plate. Toch for a lot of years music and has written he has already played to this artist just as long have been own numbers. With the cover photograph of from wood heart cut that clearly by all types and wind has gone demonstrates Roger Holzheimer in an illustrative manner he wants try what recover with its songs. A broad scale of emotions, feelings, positive and less leuke events from its personal life determines the subject of the texts in its songs. Rough Hewn Heart is to a collection of eleven itself-written songs that he with accompaniment of mainly acoustic jet ear at hearing brings. It must said become that Roger Holzheimer are vocal no real hoogvlieger and that can a successive bel onion phthisis of this eleven songs create greyness or even entering trouble. But separate its some numbers certainly worth it to be picked out there specifically for the bel onion phthisis. Rough Hewn Heart - Roger Holzheimer - CD Review
By Harry Gorden

Harry Gorden

Rough Hewn Heart is a CD by Roger Holzheimer. This new, unique voice has titled his CD well, using his wistful Colorado backdrop to reflect on love lost and love found. What Holzheimer has done is more than find his voice, an accomplishment in itself in today's blurred, sound alike musical genres. Tapping into those strings that have pulled all of our hearts, he has achieved a long held dream of being a successful recording artist.

Roger, no different than a million others, was given a guitar as a young teenager. Through careers, marriages, relocations, reunions and the decades...Roger never stopped strumming his guitar, writing songs and singing not just from his Rough Hewn Heart, but to his innermost dream as well. Roger has known he had the influences and experiences that shaped his outlook on love and was confident these would resonate for others. Using these experiences, he has created a CD with feelings full of a raw, honest, labor of love. He achieved what we all hope to accomplish: his dream.

Track 2 is "Found" and I recommend your internet search to listen and see if it resonates feelings of love and a dream fulfilled. While there are influences of Rundgren, Mitchell, Costello and Coltrane, Roger makes the lyrics his own, performs from his candid perspective, allowing the listener to see they can use personal experiences to accomplish their dream as well.

Whose heart isn't rough-hewn? Thousands of poets, writers, doctors and assorted practitioners have tried to tell us what love is. What Roger has done is shown us, rather than try to tell us, that our hearts are nicked, scraped, and often burnished, but none the less a solid reflection of our individual experiences. Though each unique, if we are honest with ourselves, we too have a rough hewn heart. Roger's clarity in lyric and voice helps the listener tap into their own very real, very reflective feelings of lost loves and fortunately, found loves as well. Our hearts show the wear and tear, but prideful of surviving and understanding the often significant cost, we appreciate what has shaped us and our acquired ability to shape others.

This CD is probably not for younger, unsophisticated listeners, nor probably for those who are not comfortable with seeing one's feelings exposed. However if on occasion a memory of a lost love enters your reflection, or you assess your span of relationships, though some difficult, you can see they have each helped shape what our hearts are today. If you are still pursuing your dream, take encouragement that a guy like Roger can achieve his. Showing us that we too...even if a tear is shed along the way, our "Rough Hewn Heart" will bring a inspiring smile to our face.

With a voice like a poor man's Diamond - Neil so - Roger Holzheimer sings some of his songs on Rough hewn Heart (house). The singer-songwriter from Colorado has taken the time before this debut. Life has it yielded enough material for a collection of songs. The love that went out. Life on the street in New Orleans and San Francisco. In Younger, he draws on memories and that makes a John Hiatt in his early days, with such piercing sound. They are not only songs of a man with his guitar, drums and keys he creates a wide sound. As in '57 Chevy, a number that troubled Holzheimer the unsteady tone of panic Roky Erickson has somewhat excessive for a song about an old car so you could say. In Your Window is the Cat Stevens reference, definitely a beautiful song.
